The Naked and the Nude

​

'The naked is exposed, vulnerable and embarrassed while the nude projects an image of a balanced, prosperous, confident body' - Kenneth Clark. Exploring how simply printed a different way up, the reading of an image can change. 

 

Poses taken from from porn magazines, in order to compare/challenge the exploitive nature of pornography and photography in general. In my work much consideration is given to ethics. This idea of care is further demonstrated through the making process. handling of the large format camera and film to finally the gum bichromate method; entailing days of careful handling to create each print.

These processes transpire visually into the hand painted quality of the image and border. Stemming from the project Uses of the Erotic, the red border maintains reference to the contact sheet.
